Mao Pérez began his journey in the world of tattooing in 1980 after meeting his current partner Cathy, in the Swiss city of Lausanne. The following year, they both traveled to Ibiza where they set up a room in a chalet to tattoo.
As the veteran tattoo artist told us, "at first, in Switzerland, we tattooed in our caravan and later we opened a studio there, until one fine day we decided that we were fed up with the bad weather and we came to Spain." Two years later, Mao and Cathy moved to Rota: "I come from a career military family and one of my uncles suggested Rota to me.
When I arrived in Cádiz, the first thing I saw was a truck with one of those huge wheels, like the Americans have, and I said- this is my place-". There, Mao opened the first tattoo studio, as such, in Spain.
